Party band, novelty act or multi-talented artists? The Margaritas are all of the above. The all-singing, all-dancing Sydney girl trio are a comedy covers band……with a twist…….
Currently making a name for themselves on corporate, cabaret and party stages around Australasia, the three senoritas, Nathalie Cotte, Jackeline Laso and Natalie McCormack, brought their unique show to Mardi Gras 2009, The Supper Club, The Ruby Review, many weddings, private functions, awards nights and are currently about to light up the stage of “Wicked Women” on the 21st of August at The Hornsby RSL club.
Part tribute, part parody, they rework vintage gems from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
The Margaritas’s have elements of cabaret, burlesque (no strip tease alas!) with a deliciously wicked sense of humour that would make Benny Hill blush.
Indeed, with a cartwheel here, a slap on the bum there, their visual appeal and sporadic bursts of the unexpected make for extraordinary entertainment.

I’ve had a bit of an interesting upbringing, lived all over, seen lots of things…
I was born in Brisbane, but when my parents separated it was off to Newcastle and close to the Williamstown RAAF base where my mother met her 2nd husband. From the tender age of 4 I was a bonified Air Force Brat. I spent the later of my primary school years living in Malaysia, attending one of the only english speak schools at the time. I think I am one of the few people that can say they used to have to go to another island just to go to school! I’ve been all over the world and while my soul mate city is definitely Paris, Sydney is the only city I could call home. I’ve lived here since 1991 and have resided all over this whacky town.
I got in to burlesque as something to do when I lost my partner at 25. He had been sick for a few days and simply collapsed in our lounge room on Boxing Day – I had to perform CPR until the ambo’s got there. But he was already gone. Turns out he had an ulcer that ruptured. I was very lost for a long time, and the house was very empty, so I started looking for a way to fill my nights with things besides cooking dinner for one and watching reruns of The Simpsons.
I attended a few different classes but couldnt really find anything that made me FEEL burlesque. I searched online, watched videos, looked at photos and articles, and soon enough I realised that I didnt just want to do this for fun – I wanted to be a burlesque dancer, and I wanted to bring that glamour and fun that seemed to be missing along with me. Soon enough burlesque was consuming my life, and one day when staring down at the shower floor while daydreaming (the shower is where I come up with all my ideas) I realised that there was a diamante that was permanently fixed to the floor. Burlesque was in my life for good – so I quit my stable 9 – 5 job as a PA at a major accounting firm and I havent looked back since.
To me, Danica Lee saved me. And everytime before we go on stage together, we thank our lucky stars we found each other. Because I’m not sure where I would be without the strength and confidence she helped me find in myself.

Currently staring in the ratings winner Channel 7’s Dancing with the Stars, Fiona leapt at the chance to cha cha the line-up of Australia’s best comics and burlesque performers.Fiona is one of the most successful and popular Australian comedians working today; in addition to her stellar comedy career she has also been a mother to five children. 2009 has seen Fiona’s contribution to the Australian cultural landscape recognised when she was awarded The Northern Territories “Australian of the Year” honour.
Hailing from Alice Springs, the growth of her career is even more impressive when you take into account the geographic isolation of her home town. To have risen to become one of the most sought after stand-up comedians in the world is truly an incredible feat, and an indisputable testament to her tenacity and talent.
Fiona’s debut solo show was “Fiona her Sister and some Guy…”; it sold out Adelaide Fringe and then the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2000, in the latter she took out the coveted best Newcomer Award for that year. Since then Fiona has sold out ten Festival shows at Melbourne Comedy Festival, five Adelaide Fringe Festivals, three Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, two Hong Kong Fringe Festival seasons and twice at The Sydney Comedy Festival. She has also been booked to perform at the invitation only “Montreal Comedy Festival”, including a prized performance in one of the globally televised “Just For Laughs Gala” TV productions.
In addition to this Festival success Fiona has also performed as the Featured Act at the world famous Hollywood Improv Comedy Club, as well as in theatres in Singapore and London. She was also selected from a world wide search to participate in the top rating USA TV program “Last Comic Standing”.
Fiona is a genuine star of comedy across the globe. She has appeared on virtually every relevant television program on Australian television and performed radio shows on ABC Radio. She is currently finishing off her first book and writes a weekly column for Australian Women’s Weekly.

Wicked Woman's drollest comedian Amanda Gray was the talk of the comedy town on Monday night's NSW Grand Final for The MelbourneInternational Comedy Festival of RAW. Just a couple of minutes into her set the highly popular, dead pan comic lost the attention of the crows momentarily. Never phased Amanda stood patiently on stage while Comedy Store staff rushed around trying to extinguish a small fire which had started on one of the tables in the audience.]]>While not a finalist this year, Comedy Store patrons were amazed at her calm presence through out the minor emergency. As Amanda pointed out her face belies all the torrents of emotion she experienced, adding ‘My terrified face is the same as my happy face, which is the same as my sex face……”

Julia was selected against all comers around Australia in 2008 and will be one of four comics to be showcased at this years Festival. Julia, like three other Comedy Zone performers qualified for the Grand Finals of Comedy on the Rox’s Quest for the Best .
Another Wicked Woman Hannah Gadsby, was a participant in an earlier Festival Comedy Zone. She acknowledges the importance of this program in kick starting her career, which now includes gigs at the Edinburgh and Montreal Festivals.
